More and more news is spread through social media websites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat). Here are some helpful tips to determine what is real and what is fake.
Review the graphic below to determine which websites are the most credible and which websites to avoid.
- Consider the source: Who is the author or news organization? Have you heard of them before and know them to be real?
- Is there bias? Does the author present both sides of the story or does the author favor and only report on one side?
- Fact Check! Can you find the same facts on a different, trustworthy website? If you can not verify the information anywhere else, there is a good chance it is fake.
